Sunday 13 May 2012

I have one more exam left which is on Tuesday and after that my plan is to party, have film days, and spend as much time as I can with my lovelies until we have to all go home for the Summer. We are going to Latitude together though which is going to be AMAZING! Latitude is the one festival which I have always wanted to attend as I can express my love for all things fancy dress and hippy without looking like an idiot.

I'll do a blog post and Youtube haul of all thing festival nearer the time but I've already brought I few things which will fit in well.
Obviously, the festival isn't just about dressing up, the line up is heavenly. Lana Del Ray, Elbow, the Horrors, Ben Howard, Laura Marling, Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeros but to name and few.

I recently did a new haul video. It drags on a bit so I do apologise!

The Staple Wardrobe for the Staple Student

I write for my university's magazine and this is one of my articles which was published. I thought I would share it on my blog for fellow students to read. Enjoy!

Gok is constantly reminding us of it. Carrie Bradshaw lived by it. Trinny and Susanna wouldn’t stop going on about it in the early 2000s. What am I on about?

The Staple Wardrobe. Those essential items which you can wearing again and again without anyone really noticing. And what a great idea for us poor students! So, after lots of planning and research, I have created a list of those ‘staple’ items which are a must-have for your uni wardrobe which won’t see your loan disappear.

1.       The Little Black Dress: Thousands of women live by the proverb that ANYONE will look great in a black, fitted dress. And I would have to agree with this. If you think you have worn everything in your wardrobe to the forum, don’t fret! Find that black dress you’ve worn hundreds of times before then knock on the doors of your fellow female flatmates and (if you have to) beg them to let you borrow a pair of heels, a clutch bag, some statement jewellery. Then BAM! You have an entirely new outfit even though you’re wearing that same black dress.

2.       The Face Paints: These are by far one of the most essential items to have in your uni room when you move in. Whether it’s a smurf, a vampire, or a neon fairy, there are bound to many a night where decorating your face is required.

3.       The Comfy Heels: When you find those heels which not only look great, but also support your feet enough that you don’t hobble back after a night out, it is a beautiful moment for any respectable woman. So look after them! Clean them after a messy night, carefully place them in your wardrobe, and DON’T let your friends borrow them!

4.       The Ideal Clutch Bag: This is another essential item for your uni days. (well uni nights really!) You want a going out bag which is not only big enough to fit your phone, purse, key and maybe that sneaky bottle of vodka, but also a bag which lets you still dance. A bag with a long strap means that you can fling it over your shoulder when you’re favourite song comes on. A bigger clutch means you can fold a cardi in there for the cold walk back to halls. You decide what kind of bag would be best for you.

5.       The Perfect Fitting Jeans: A nine o’clock lecture in my eyes is a 8:30 wake up and shoving on a pair of jeans and your comfiest hoodie. However, it’s important that those jeans are too tight to cut off your circulation but not baggy enough to worry about them falling down. You want a happy medium and this can be hard to find. So get looking! Try on hundreds of pairs if you have to because, trust me, it’s worth it when you find them.

So these are my five essential items to include in your uni wardrobe.

So give me Coffee and TV

My week has been another boring one consisting of revision plus two exams which went surprisingly okay but I guessed will we have to wait until results day to see how okay they actually went!

I'm going home for a few days so I can revise for my last exam and I'm hoping to catch up with some home friends while I'm back which will be great because I'm missing them lots!

I uploaded a Youtube video last weekend of a tour of my uni room so I thought I'd share it on my blog too. I'll also put the link to my Youtube channel as I'm wanting to do more videos and would love subscribers pretty please!

The Only Way Isn't Essex

If you know me then you will know that I'm not a person who moans a huge amount. But...I have a few which I'm going to let out on my lovely little blog.

I am a TOWIE fan and watch it with my flat mates religiously every Sunday and Wednesday but recently, I've been concerned that the producers are not considering the target audience. My sister is 16 and she and her friend literally worship the stars (if you can call them stars?) of the programme. I had a night out in Essex near Christmas and she was so excited. I think they think it's like Disney or something. It isn't. Now, if you don't watch it (I respect you for that. I wish I hadn't started. It's an addictive thing.) one of the main characters, Lauren is apparently "fat". By "fat", she is probably a size 12-14. I would love to be a size 12-14. I would pay good money to be a size 12-14.
So due to all the horrible press she is getting, Lauren has decided to go on a juice diet which is basically what it says on the tin. In one scene a couple of episodes ago, Lauren is sitting there, drinking her little cartoon of juice while her admittedly tiny friends are tucking in to lunch. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this giving our young generation the worst message possible.

Many of my sister's friend, including herself are a size 12-14 which is NORMAL. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if I saw someone that size and to be honest, would probably envy their figure.
I think it is down to the producers of TOWIE to seriously think about the target audience of the programme and how many young girls want to be just like the stars of it.

My sister owns the TOWIE perfume, a 'REEM' bag along with some other merchandise and she spoken about friends who have waited ours to meet the stars at different events.

Sixteen years old is the prime age when a young girl is feeling conscious about their bodies and with TV such as this on our screens, surely the number of girls with serious body issues is going to rise.

I've even heard by sister talking with her friends about a "No Carbs, before Marbs" diet they are going to do for the summer.

In my eyes, it's frightening.

Keep your head up, keep your heart strong

so as exam period is approaching, I thought I would make a video about my revision tips and advice. I'm by far not the a* student who always does amazingly in exam but I think it's sometimes nice to hear advice from the average joe (or kat).

I have my first exam on Monday (arghh!!) so this weekend will be primarily made up of revision, revision, revision but obviously fitting in The Voice which I LOVE!!! How ridiculously beautiful is Danny?

Here are also some photos from my week (mostly involving food!)

On Monday I went to The Waffle House in St. Albans and had this magnificent Banoffee waffle. To say it was tasty is an understatement!

I went to Nandos on Wednesday with the girls in my flat. I went for a (sort of) healthy option of lemon and herb chicken breast in a pitta with spicy rice.

Discovered this beauties to get me through Journalism revision. There are melt in the mouth amazing!

This is definitely my favourite flavour!

Footprints in the Sand

So last week I spent Monday to Friday in North Wales at an mountain centre called CMC Pensarn. It's the most amazing place and I have been there since I was 12 years old so have practically grown up with it. I go with my youth group, although with my mum and dad who are the leaders. They are closer than my friends, I see them as family. We had countless laughs, falling out of canoes, and far too many photos taken but it was by far the best week I've ever had there.
I thought I'd share some photographs from the week with you.

Charlotte and my Titanic moment, hours after falling out of a canoe!

Yes I did jump in to a gorge. And it was cold. Really cold.

The mountain was on fire!

Raft building. We can second!

Beach Sunset. My favourite place.

Here comes the sun

I came home from university for Easter yesterday so have spent the day enjoying the luxury of a sofa (sounds stupid but fellow students living in halls will understand!) and submitting my journalism essay which felt amazing!!! The essay was on defamation which is a important but incredibly complicated process linked with journalism and I think I finally cracked it today. I also got my exam timetable today so can start sorting out my revision timetable. I'm a ridiculously organised and controlling person so I like to know when everything is!

On Wednesday, we had our last night out at university before we all get on board the dreaded exam train (that was an awful metaphor!) and leave our social lives behind for a couple of weeks. Wednesday nights are great at my university because they have one room which plays literally all my favourite music from my beloved Arctic Monkeys to the legendary Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I'd been feeling ill all week but I got through it like any good student would!

here are some snaps from the night...

I wore my black stretchy H and M skirt, sequinned vest top, Dorothy Perkins and Sheer blouse fro Primark.

Hope you all have a great Easter break and I'll try to blog throughout!
